Important Information About the One Mill

Since the One Mill was passed, the district has made tremendous gains. We cannot afford to lose momentum or go backward.

Our schools have made significant progress:

  • For the first time in history, Duval Schools earned an “A” rating from the state.
  • The district’s graduation rate now exceeds the state average.

Over the past four years, since the One Mill was approved by voters, the Duval County School District has attracted and retained high-quality teachers.

If Jacksonville is to become a truly world-class city, it must be supported by world-class schools.

The One Mill benefits all public school students—both traditional and charter—lifting the entire system.

Without the One Mill, Duval teachers face, on average, an $8,600 pay cut annually.

Without the 1-Mill, Duval is ranked last among Florida’s large urban school districts and 20th over all in teacher pay.

Losing the One Mill would put Duval at a competitive disadvantage, risking the loss of our best teachers to neighboring counties with higher pay.

The One Mill is not a new tax. It simply continues what we already pay.

All of the money from the One Mill stays in Duval County. None of it goes to Tallahassee or Washington.

Approximately half of Florida’s counties have passed the One Mill, including St. Johns, Clay, and Nassau Counties.
